“Perfectionism: Developing the tools to get unstuck from the feeling that nothing is ever good enough.” We will discuss the difference between perfectionism and having goals to strive for; how perfectionism and negative self talk impact mental health and relationship dynamics; and review some strategies to help combat perfectionistic tendencies, including how parents can help their children.

Speaker Bio: Gabriela Barnett, known as Gabi, is a dedicated licensed therapist who has been running her private practice for the past two years. With over nine years of experience in mental health, Gabi has worked in various clinical settings, including as a research coordinator, counselor in both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, and as a counselor and assistant supervisor in an outpatient substance use clinic. Her diverse background enables her to support teens, young adults, and adults from various communities facing a wide range of mental health challenges. Gabi is particularly passionate about helping individuals struggling with a harsh internal critic, exploring how this affects their mental health, relationships, and self-perception. Using an eclectic therapeutic approach, Gabi creates a space where clients feel safe to engage in real conversations and freely express their thoughts. Her goal is to guide clients toward developing healthier, more honest perspectives, ultimately reducing anxiety and depression, while fostering a stronger, more compassionate relationship with others and themselves.
